A Super-Sized society

New York City has launched a new initiative to keep consumers of fast food chains aware of the calories that any one of sixty six locations and thirty five thousand different menu items contain. By way of a simple click of your mouse, your directed within the NYC Health Departments web site called Menustat to an online calorie counter which reveals some alarming numbers data which explains why Americans are becoming a super-sized society.

Lets begin with the fast food chain Chili’s. Do not ask me why but they have always been at the top of my list of the most scorned fast food locations, other than Applebee’s which I think is the absolute bottom of the barrel in terms of food quality, or lack there of. The Big Mouth Bites Burger when ordered with ranch dressing and fries will cost that waste line of yours a whopping 1,800 calories which is just seven hundred calories less than the average adult male should be consuming per day, and that’s on the high end.

Perhaps because we as Americans consume many of our meals on the go, we have dumb-ed down or numbed our palates to the point we no longer appreciate a home cooked meal and therefore do not cook at home the way our families once did.

New York Cities Health Commissioner D. Thomas Farley commented that “Foods eaten away from home account for nearly one third of the calories Americans consume.” Do you really need to have a PhD to recognize we have an obesity issue that is spiraling out of control here in the US? Does one need to read the data put out by the American Society of Clinical Nutrition to realize that we as a society need to turn our backs on these fast food chains and consume once again the store bought, quality ingredients from local producers to create a balanced diet for ourselves and for those we love?

High cholesterol is the primary component of arteriosclerosis which are like lesions on our artery walls and choke off the flow of blood. Its biological rust and it can slow down or choke off the blood flowing through your system like rusty water in an old water pipe until only dribble comes from your faucet.

To emphasize how this unhealthy eating lifestyle is taking hold on Americans not only living in populated cities but in the out stretches of the American home front. The Pima Indians of southwest Arizona, believe it or not are now infamous for having the highest rates of obesity in the United States. The explanation for the Pima? Same as ours anywhere, it is that we have all succumbed to prosperity and the potentially toxic environment of the American lifestyle.
